Vandaag wordt in Italië de Tour of the Alps op gang geschoten. De voormalige Giro del Trentino is bij uitstek een rondje voor de klimmers en wordt gezien als een uitstekende voorbereiding op de Giro d’Italia, die over enkele weken van start gaat. Vorig jaar wist Simon Yates te zegevieren.
Diverse bekende namen staan dan ook aan de start in Cles, gelegen aan het Lago di Santa Giustina. Denk hierbij aan Mikel Landa, Pello Bilbao, Miguel Ángel López, Richie Porte, Pavel Sivakov, Romain Bardet, Thibaut Pinot en Hugh Carthy. In ons land rekeneb we op toptalent Cian Uijtdebroeks (tevens de enige Belg op de startlijst!) om zich te tonen.
